Traveling to Batam can be done either by ferry or by plane. Batam is easily accessible from Singapore & Malaysia (by ferry) or from other regions of Indonesia by domestic air routes.

To get to Batam by Ferry you can travel from either Singapore or Malaysia. If you have arrived in either of these destinations on your way to Batam, you may need to stay overnight in Singapore or Malaysia, as the ferry boats to Batam do not run at night (they stop at approx 10pm). Below are 4 hotels in Singapore that I recommend (I have stayed at them all several times), they are 3 to 4 star hotels. If traveling to Batam from Singapore you can choose from 2 ferry terminals. The first is located at the Singapore Cruise Center in the HarborFront Center (HFC). To get to the HFC take a taxi or a bus, or you can uses the MRT (Mass Rapid Train system).

The ferry operators are located on the 3rd floor and tickets can be purchased there. The journey to Batam takes approximately 45 mins. The Harbor Front Center is also a large shopping complex, so you can purchase last minute items or enjoy a meal or drink while waiting to depart.

Singapore?s other Ferry Terminal is Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal, located close to Changi International Airport. To get to the Ferry Terminal take a taxi or a bus, or you can use the MRT (Mass Rapid Train system).

The ferry operators are located inside the terminal and tickets can be purchased there. The journey to Batam takes approximately 45 mins. The Ferry Terminal has several shops and cafes to help you fill in your time while waiting to depart.

If traveling to Batam from Malaysia you can choose from 2 ferry terminals. The first is Stulang Laut Ferry Terminal located at Johor Bahru, Southern Malaysia, and is commonly known as the Johor Bahru International Ferry Terminal (JBIFT). To get to the Ferry Terminal take a taxi or a bus.

The ferry operators are located inside the terminal and tickets can be purchased there. The journey to Batam takes approximately 90 mins. The Ferry Terminal has cafes selling drinks & snacks and some shops are available

Batam has 5 Ferry Terminals strategically located across the Island & are easy accessible from Singapore or Malaysia. The 5 ferry terminals are listed as follows: This ferry terminal is located in Tering Bay, at Batam Center which is home to some large shopping complexes and also has several government buildings in the vicinity. It is approximately 20 mins by taxi to Nagoya, Batam's main city.

This ferry terminal is located near the Batu Ampar Port. It is just a few minutes by taxi to Nagoya, the main city in Batam. Some of the hotels have mini buses available for pick-up / drop-off at the ferry terminal.

This ferry terminal is located on the north-western tip of Batam. It is approximately 35 mins by taxi to Nagoya or 15 mins to Waterfront City. Some hotels have mini buses available for pick-up / drop-off at the ferry terminal.

This ferry terminal is located south of Sekupang Ferry Terminal. Most of the ferries that stop at Sekupang Ferry Terminal also go to Waterfront City Ferry Terminal, approximately 10 mins more by ferry. It is just a few minutes by taxi to the Waterfront City area. The nearby hotels (just 5 mins away) have mini buses available for pick-up / drop-off at the ferry terminal.

This ferry terminal is located on the north-eastern tip of Batam in the Nongsa River. It is just a few minutes by taxi to nearby resorts. The resorts have mini buses available for pick-up / drop-off at the ferry terminal.

If traveling to Batam by plane, there are several domestic flight locations from within Indonesia to fly from. At the beginning of 2009 Batam has just started limited international flights from some of its nearby neighboring countries. Batam?s airport is mainly domestic however it is gradually evolving into an international airport. For more information about the international flights, check out ?Hang Nadim Airport? for details. Hang Nadim Airport is a domestic airport and is Batam's only airport. Situated on the north-eastern side of Batam it is serviced by numerous airlines. It is just a few minutes by taxi to nearby resorts and approximately 45 mins to Nagoya, Batam's main city. The resorts have mini buses available for pick-up / drop-off at the airport.

Flights from several of Indonesia's airports land at Hang Nadim Airport including Jakarta, Pekanbaru, Bandung & Medan.
