Traveling to Batam can be done either by ferry or by plane. Batam is easily accessible from Singapore & Malaysia (by ferry) or from other regions of Indonesia by domestic air routes.
To get to Batam by Ferry you can travel from either Singapore or Malaysia. If you have arrived in either of these destinations on your way to Batam, you may need to stay overnight in Singapore or Malaysia, as the ferry boats to Batam do not run at night (they stop at approx 10pm). If traveling to Batam from Singapore you can choose from 2 ferry terminals. The first is located at the Singapore Cruise Center in the HarborFront Center (HFC). To get to the HFC take a taxi or a bus, or you can uses the MRT (Mass Rapid Train system).The ferry operators are located on the 3rd floor and tickets can be purchased there. The journey to Batam takes approximately 45 mins. The Harbor Front Center is also a large shopping complex, so you can purchase last minute items or enjoy a meal or drink while waiting to depart.

Singapore?s other Ferry Terminal is Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal, located close to Changi International Airport. To get to the Ferry Terminal take a taxi or a bus, or you can use the MRT (Mass Rapid Train system).The ferry operators are located inside the terminal and tickets can be purchased there. The journey to Batam takes approximately 45 mins. The Ferry Terminal has several shops and cafes to help you fill in your time while waiting to depart.

The first is Stulang Laut Ferry Terminal located at Johor Bahru, Southern Malaysia, and is commonly known as the Johor Bahru International Ferry Terminal (JBIFT). To get to the Ferry Terminal take a taxi or a bus.The ferry operators are located inside the terminal and tickets can be purchased there. The journey to Batam takes approximately 90 mins. If traveling to Batam by plane, there are several domestic flight locations from within Indonesia to fly from. At the beginning of 2009 Batam has just started limited international flights from some of its nearby neighboring countries. Hang Nadim Airport is a domestic airport and is Batam's only airport. Situated on the north-eastern side of Batam it is serviced by numerous airlines. It is just a few minutes by taxi to nearby resorts and approximately 45 mins to Nagoya, Batam's main city. The resorts have mini buses available for pick-up / drop-off at the airport.Flights from several of Indonesia's airports land at Hang Nadim Airport including Jakarta, Pekanbaru, Bandung & Medan.
