The Batam Bintan Ferry is a RORO type (Roll On Roll Off), so you can drive your vehicle into the ferry and drive off at your destination. The Batam to Bintan ferry goes from Telaga Punggur Sea Port, Batam Island, to Tanjung Uban on Bintan Island.

The ferry service has been improved recently. Previously, the arrival and departure schedule for the Batam to Bintan ferry or the Bintan to Batam ferry was only twice in a week.

The new departure schedule is twice a day Tanjung Uban to Batam: 8.00am Batam to Tanjung Uban: 10.00am Tanjung Uban to Batam: 1.00pm Batam to Tanjung Uban: 4.00pmTravel time is approximately 1 hour ? times may be subject to change, so please check with the ferry ticket office when planning your trip Tickets can be bought from ticket counters that are available at the Telaga Punggur Ferry Terminal, Batam Island, and at Tanjung Uban Ferry Terminal, Bintan Island.

Prices include insurance, so all travelers who use the Batam Bintan ferry together with their vehicles are protected by insurance from Jasa Raharja. Prices may be subject to change, so please check with the ferry ticket office when planning your trip

There is seating onboard, once you have parked your vehicle, you go to the upper enclosed deck, where there is plenty of seating for passengers, as well as toilets a 

available.

You can also take your own food onboard the Batam Bintan ferry, and it is also allowed to take food and any other things you may need, for your journey, between the two Islands, with no restrictions. There are some restrictions on the type of cars that can go across, for example pickups are not allowed, for some reason, but most cars and motorbikes are allowed. Traveling to Batam can be done either by ferry or by plane. Batam is easily accessible from Singapore & Malaysia (by ferry) or from other regions of Indonesia by domestic air routes.

To get to Batam by Ferry you can travel from either Singapore or Malaysia. If you have arrived in either of these destinations on your way to Batam, you may need to stay overnight in Singapore or Malaysia, as the ferry boats to Batam do not run at night (they stop at approx 10pm). Below are 4 hotels in Singapore that I recommend (I have stayed at them all several times), they are 3 to 4 star hotels. If they don?t suit your taste, then you can use the search box to look for a hotel in Singapore (there are more than 200 to choose from!)

Hang Nadim Airport is a domestic airport and is Batam's only airport. Situated on the north-eastern side of Batam it is serviced by numerous airlines. Tengku Fisabilillah Bridge

Barelang Islands consists of 6 islands south of Batam. Barelang gets its name as an acronym from 3 of the island's names - Batam, Rempang & Galang

The 6 islands are Tonton Island, Nipah Island, Setotok Island, Rempang Island, Galang Island and Galang Baru Island

Bridge construction started in 1992 and took several years to complete as there were no roads on the islands or any other infrastructure.

During construction a main road was built that runs down through the center of each island, with roads branching off to various locations. It is about a 40 min trip from the 1st bridge to the end of the last island

The bridges have been named after rulers of the Melayu & Riau Kingdoms that ruled during the fifteenth to eighteenth centuries

The 1st bridge is called Tengku Fisabilillah Bridge and joins Batam and Tonton Island. The bridge is just over 640 meters long and is a cable stayed type bridge.

It is a very popular place for locals & tourists, as the bridge is almost 40 meters above the water and provides spectacular ocean & island views.

Tonton Island is a very small island with only a couple of government buildings on it.

The largest of the Barelang Islands, Rempang Island has many nice beaches along the west coast, such as Melayu Beach, Pasir Putih Beach and Memory Hill Beach, to name a few. These beaches are good for swimming and have restaurants serving local food with drinks available.

Some now offer budget beach front accommodation at reasonable prices.

Vietnam Village, a former Vietnamese Refugee Camp, was built by Vietnamese ?Boat People?

that escaped the war in Vietnam by boat, and arrived at Galang
Island in 1976 and occupied the village until 1995

Around 250,000 Vietnamese occupied the camp during its 19 year history, with most eventually gaining asylum in Australia or Canada, while others were returned back to Vietnam under emotional circumstances

The Vietnamese built several buildings and temples during their stay; these have now been preserved and made into a tourist attraction. There are some replica boats of the ones used by the Boat people to flee from their homeland.

A Church and the Quan Am Tu Quil Buddhist Temple (built in 1984) are still used by worshippers today, and is one of Batam most visited attractions. The Khong Pan Su Cam Yao administration building, a clinic, and social services complex & youth center were built and ran by the refugees.

View the Ngha Trang Memorial Wall, built as a tribute to the boat people of Vietnam; or visit the Galang Museum with its many interesting artifacts.

Today the camp remains preserved for visitors to stroll amongst, and read & view the camp history from many of the displayed paintings and documents

The last of the Barelang Islands, Galang Baru Island has at its southern tip a Kelong style restaurant serving seafood and local favorites. Currently some budget style beach front accommodation units are being built and should be ready some time in the near future. At the tail end of Galang Baru Island is a little island with a white sandy beach where you can relax with a refreshing swim or a picnic. The waters around the Barelang Islands are also excellent fishing grounds. Local fishermen have sturdy wooden fishing boats available for charter. Take your camera to capture some stunning, breathtaking views.

Batam Restaurants are well known for tasty Asian & Western cuisine, as well as top quality seafood. There is a wide selection of restaurants to choose from, ranging from hotel restaurants, seafood restaurants, food courts and Warung, the local street-side stalls. Warungs also serve Ayam Bakar (barbecued chicken) and Ikan Bakar (barbecued fish).

Seafood restaurants usually have tanks containing a variety of live seafood, and you can make you selection and then have it cooked, so you know it is as fresh as possible!

Pujaseras or Food Courts are a great dining experience, with the smells of many different mouth-watering dishes wafting through the air ? most of the food courts are either open air or covered, so are cool and refreshing during the evenings. Unlike Singapore?s hawker centers, these offer alfresco dining with live entertainment and karaoke, at very affordable rates.

Try Gorengan or deep fried banana fritters, Tapioca, sweet potato and bean curd. A pack of 10 pieces will cost about Rp. 10,000.

Bandrek is a type of health drink, with milk and egg, and is popular with the locals. Jamu, is a traditional herbal mixture for general health and well being, has more than 30 different varieties. You can try the drink in a Jamu shop or get a glass from a Jamu Gendong lady.

For the adventurous try the local Nasi Padang restaurants or the Warung food stalls, where you can taste traditional Indonesian dishes from all parts of Indonesia ? be prepared for some spicy food!, as Indonesian cooking uses a generous serving of chilli?s.
